5 Essential Steps

Enter Ihram

• Before crossing the Miqat, make the intention for Umrah.
• Men wear the prescribed Ihram garments; women wear modest clothing.
• Begin reciting the Talbiyah.

Tawaf Around the KaabaCircumambulation

• Enter Masjid al-Haram and approach the Kaaba.
• Circle the Kaaba seven times, starting at the Black Stone.
• Pray two rak‘ahs after Tawaf when possible.

Sa‘i: Safa and MarwahWalking between the two hills

• Begin at Safa and finish at Marwah.
• Walk seven lengths between the two hills.
• Remember Allah and make du‘a throughout.

Shave or Trim Hair

• Men shave or shorten the hair.
• Women trim a small portion from the ends of their hair.

5

Completion of Umrah

• After shaving or trimming, Umrah is complete.
• The restrictions of Ihram end. Alhamdulillah!

Enter Ihram & Begin Hajj

• Make the intention for Hajj and recite the Talbiyah.
• On 8 Dhul-Hijjah, travel to Mina and perform the prescribed prayers.

Day of Arafah9th Dhul-Hijjah

• On 9 Dhul-Hijjah, stand at Arafah during the prescribed time.
• Spend the day in prayer, repentance and du‘a.
• Standing at Arafah is essential to Hajj.

Muzdalifah

• After sunset, travel from Arafah to Muzdalifah.
• Pray Maghrib and Isha together and spend the night.
• Collect small pebbles for the Jamarat.

Mina & Stoning the Jamarat

• On 10 Dhul-Hijjah, stone Jamrat al-Aqabah.
• Offer the sacrifice where required, then shave or trim hair.
• Stone the three Jamarat on the days of Tashriq.

5

Tawaf al-Ifadah & Completion

• Return to Makkah for Tawaf al-Ifadah.
• Perform Sa‘i if required for your type of Hajj.
• Complete the remaining rites, including farewell Tawaf when required.
